About YGW

The program of the Yeshiva of Greater Washington-Tiferes Gedaliah [YGW] is directed toward the development of individuals whose lives will be enriched by devotion to learning and to the spiritual and moral values of Judaism.  Excellence in intellectual and ethical pursuits is a common goal shared by the adults and young people involved in the school.  Standing behind the program are our beliefs that:

  1. Education is a lifelong process.
  2. Each student has unique capabilities and needs a learning environment in which he or she can develop those capabilities to the fullest.
  3. The learning environment most conducive to this goal is one in which the worth and individuality of each student is valued and respected.
  4. Such a supportive environment is the optimum climate to produce confident, independent, questioning students able to meet their own problems and make positive contributions to society.
  5. Students should not be shielded from frustration, delay, and defeat.  However, students should be helped to use their positive learning experiences as support in dealing with temporary setbacks.

To achieve the goals of our program, the school must provide students with the tools to enable them to continue to take joy from a life of learning.  Therefore, the efforts of the school are directed toward:

  1. Giving each student the opportunity:
    a. To obtain a firm grasp of the fundamentals of learning.
    b. To develop his/her skills as a student so they will be usable in further formal or self‑education.
    c. To gain exposure to the world of ideas.
    d. To develop spiritual and ethical values.
    e. To become a self‑motivated, self‑disciplined learner.

  2. Continually exploring ways to structure the academic program to enable every student to meet with the greatest possible success.
  3. Obtaining and supporting a faculty which will employ the most effective teaching methods to carry out the goals of the school.
  4. Maintaining an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, ethical and spiritual growth of the students.
  5. Involving students in areas outside their immediate environment, with the aim of developing concerned and contributing citizens.

In order to provide equal employment and advancement opportunities to all individuals, employment decisions at YGW will be based on merit, qualifications, and abilities. Conditions of employment will not be influenced or affected by an applicant's or employee's race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by Federal or Maryland laws and regulations, including but not limited to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Uniform Guidelines of Employee Selection Procedures.
